In a press release dated January 4, 2020, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) confirm the existence of a plan to balkanize the country.

Army spokesman General Major Léon-Richard Kasonga says that the FARDC are facing individuals who only aim for the balkanization of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.DR Congo Balkanize Plan

“The FARDC General Staff wishes to remind both national and international opinion that in the context of the unconventional war waged in the far north, the FARDC are facing insurgents whose ultimate goal is the balkanization of the eastern part of the national territory, “he said.

In addition, the army spokesperson affirms that to legitimise their insurrection activities, these insurgents rely on causes of real or imagined dissatisfaction, disseminated through all social strata and by various communication channels.

“The desired effect is the collapse of legal institutions by discrediting them in the eyes of national and international opinion in order to take political-administrative control of this space and thus concretize the balkanization, however disavowed by the population of the Grand North “, adds General Major Léon-Richard Kasonga.

However, the army calls on the population to be more vigilant and to dissociate themselves from these insurgents, and by fully supporting them. The FARDC also reaffirm their commitment to support the civilian population, which has “suffered so much from the horrors of” this barbarism “through actions to rebuild basic socio-economic infrastructure”.

In front of the press last Friday, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo denounced the balkanization plan of the country. The Metropolitan Archbishop of Kinshasa has appealed to the authorities as well as to the population to end this plan.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo was in front of the national and international press on January 3, 2020 in Kinshasa. An appearance that took place after his stay in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he was comforting the victims of insecurity orchestrated by mostly foreign armed groups.

Asked about the proposal of the current coordinator of the LAMUKA political coalition, that of waging war in Rwanda to end the killing of civilians in the East, Fridolin Ambongo declares that Adolphe Muzito has, on the one hand , expressed the feeling of the Congolese people given the suffering that Beni’s compatriots are going through.

“On the one hand, I can say that what Muzito said is almost the feeling of all Congolese. If you feel the suffering that our brothers experience there in the East, a temptation to think like Muzito exists because “There is some truth in what he said,” replied the 4th cardinal in the history of the Roman Catholic Church in the DRC.

However, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kinshasa places particular emphasis on the fact that before going to war against anyone, you must first prepare beforehand. Hence, he says, the need and the obligation to organise the army.

“In our current context, if we go to war against Rwanda we have no chance. First, let’s start by putting order in our army, let’s first give the army the means to do its job. If we do not organise our army, such a proposal is a great risk for us, “insisted Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo.

As a reminder, the proposal of the former Prime Minister of the DRC Adolphe Muzito had aroused several reactions within the Congolese socio-political class. Jean-Pierre Bemba and Moïse Katumbi, two of the leaders of LAMUKA, had dissociated themselves from the words of their coordinator.
